About the Role
The Carbon Finance Associate will support the Impact Finance and Markets Division by working with the Global Carbon Markets team on project finance for Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). This role aims to enhance the quality of NCS carbon project portfolios through financial modeling, ensuring equitable benefit sharing, and coordinating impact investment opportunities. The position is a two-year term with potential for extension and is flexible for countries where TNC has existing offices.
Responsibilities
- Develop financial models and financial viability assessments for NCS carbon projects.
- Support the Global Carbon Market’s technical team with feasibility studies and project design documentation.
- Develop FP&A tools for the Carbon Markets Team, TNC business units, and project partners.
- Support the development of equitable benefit sharing arrangements at the project level, including profit-sharing mechanisms, community compensation, and incentive payment schemes.
- Stay informed on carbon markets trends, including carbon credit prices and emerging offtake and investment opportunities for NCS projects.
- Travel and work flexible hours as needed.
- Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
- 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience in project finance.
- Advanced financial modeling skills.
- Strong critical thinking, research, and analysis skills.
- Proven ability to assess a large set of opportunities and distill complex issues into strategic decisions, structured frameworks, and cohesive action plans.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must meet the requirements of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process.

Salary/Compensations
- For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range is $90,000 - $110,000 for annual base salary.
- For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency and based on the local labor market.
- Actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
