About the Role

Relay is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Activation team to help scale its digital banking platform. This role involves making high-impact, strategic decisions and directly influencing a product used by thousands of small businesses. The Activation team focuses on the customer journey from registration through funding and initial transactions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring projects meet quality standards, timelines, and business goals.
• Drive clarity in priorities and execution across the team.
• Establish and maintain effective engineering processes, including sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design reviews.
• Continuously refine team rituals to enable high-quality, predictable delivery.
• Partner with senior leadership to shape and execute the technical vision, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs.
• Work closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with user needs and business objectives.
• Enable teams to solve complex problems and deliver impactful solutions.
• Build and grow a high-performing engineering team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
• Foster a collaborative, feedback-driven environment that supports continuous learning and professional development.
• Encourage mentorship and knowledge sharing while creating opportunities for team development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience, ideally within a high-growth B2B SaaS or fintech environment.
• 1-3 years in a people management role.
• Strong technical foundation and a proven track record of shipping high-quality products.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, React, and AWS is a plus.
• Passionate about building and scaling engineering teams, and deeply invested in growing and developing people.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, bringing calm and clarity in times of ambiguity and change.
• Pragmatic decision-maker with a customer-centric mindset, able to navigate tradeoffs.
