About the Role
You'll be our first frontend engineer, owning the function and collaborating with the design team to build and expand Petra into new user flows and product surfaces. You will be the domain expert for user experience, turning ideas into production-ready UX and raising the bar for product quality.
Responsibilities
- Turn rough ideas into shipped product, from Figma exploration to production-ready UX.
- Raise the bar for product quality, including visual design, interaction design, accessibility, responsiveness, and performance.
- Prototype in code for complex interactions, motion, AI workflows, and information-dense views.
- Collaborate with customers (MSPs and security teams) to understand their workflows and pain points, translating insights into improved UX.
- Build foundational systems like reusable primitives, design tokens, and component APIs.
- Work with a stack including React, TypeScript, Node, and Python.
Requirements
- Build for real problems, not just for the sake of technology.
- Possess strong taste and notice when something is off, knowing how to fix it.
- Demonstrate real empathy for users and understand how they actually use software.
- Be comfortable with ambiguity, forming opinions, experimenting, and shipping.
- Enjoy both design and engineering as a unified craft.
- Write clean, fast production React and be willing to go deeper than the UI layer when necessary.
- Utilize AI tools effectively to increase speed and exploration without compromising critical thinking.
- Have a bias for shipping quickly without sacrificing quality.
- Apply the simplest effective solution and add complexity only when truly required.
- Be your own harshest critic, identifying flaws before others do.
- Showcase a body of work (products, side projects, open source) demonstrating a clear point of view.
