About the Role

This role involves efficiently sorting, handling, loading, and unloading freight using various equipment, including forklifts. You will be responsible for securing freight, tracking shipments, and adhering to safety policies in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently sort, handle, load and unload palletized and non-palletized freight
  • Use appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jack and forklift
  • Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies
  • Work in a safe, efficient manner, adhering to company safety policies
  • Use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments
  • Work on a dock that is not climate-controlled for extended periods
  • Lift freight and other objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally greater than 70 lbs.)
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel as necessary

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator
  • Available to work a variety of shifts due to varying freight volumes, including days, evenings, nights and weekends
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Proof of eligibility will be required in the form of a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, Canadian citizenship certificate, Canadian certificate of permanent residence, Canadian open work permit or receipt from Immigration Canada of an application for a post-graduate work permit
  • Proof of eligibility must be current and valid (not expired, cancelled or voided)
  • Proof of eligibility will be required if an offer of employment is made
  • Failure to provide proof of eligibility at least six (6) weeks prior to the start date in the offer of employment may result in the offer of employment being rescinded

Skills

  • Dock/warehouse experience in the transportation industry
  • Forklift experience in a freight/less-than-truckload environment
  • Experience loading and unloading trailers
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Desire to succeed
  • Basic math calculations
  • Ability to use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments

Salary/Compensations

  • Pay starts at $24.68/hour
