About the Role

Responsible for the safety and security of students, staff, and the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas on campus, remaining alert for disturbances, safety hazards, traffic violators, suspicious acts, suspicious persons, and other unusual conditions.
  • Enforce all authorized laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Enforce corporate and center policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform building and property safety and security checks.
  • Assist staff with extinguishing disturbances.
  • Assist staff and students in addressing issues, including de-escalation of behavior, providing escort services as needed/directed, and monitoring activities via camera surveillance systems.
  • Receive complaints and conduct appropriate preliminary investigations.
  • Perform traffic and parking control duties.
  • Enforce the center entry and pass policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six months of experience in a security or security-related field.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Possess a NYS Security Guard Certificate, or acquire one within three months of hire.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of Law Enforcement Procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of riot and crowd control procedures.
  • Proven ability to appropriately intervene in/with physical altercations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, mediation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with large groups of students, including those with special needs.
  • Proficient with common computer software (Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, etc.).
  • Reading, writing, and communicating fluently in English.
  • Hearing and speaking to express ideas and exchange information.
  • Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC screens, etc.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio, and other office equipment.
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping, and reaching overhead.
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies.
  • Occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects.
