About the Role

Lead product management for foundational platform bets within Datadog's Observability Data Platform (ODP), focusing on initiatives that significantly impact the platform's cost structure and capabilities. This role involves shaping how Datadog ingests, routes, and exposes telemetry value, influencing future platform economics.

Responsibilities

  • Set product direction across foundational platform bets by defining problems and desired outcomes.
  • Partner with engineering to determine phased work slices that deliver value to users and the business.
  • Collaborate on the long-term cost-and-value architecture of the platform, integrating value-aware telemetry, innovative data engines, and customer-facing cost stories.
  • Develop and defend sizing and impact estimates for large, diffuse programs to inform engineering and pricing decisions.
  • Anticipate and communicate market trends in telemetry economics and agentic observability.
  • Develop a deep understanding of cost-to-serve by partnering with engineering on data platform unit economics.
  • Bring cost-profile understanding into discussions with product verticals regarding customer-facing trade-offs.
  • Surface customer-positive aspects of cost optimization work.
  • Deliver concise written and verbal communication to executive, engineering, and customer audiences, clarifying complex architecture, cost-to-serve, and product priorities.

Requirements

  • Strong systems thinking ability to connect cause and effect across the data platform.
  • Ability to synthesize information from various cross-organizational stakeholders into a defensible product position.
  • Proficiency in building and defending cost-and-impact models for multi-team engineering efforts.
  • Collaborative approach with engineers, PM peers, designers, and commercial partners.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and breadth in foundational platform work.
  • 8+ years of Product Management experience or equivalent Staff-level capabilities in related software roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
