About the Role
This opportunity is supported through The Work Study Employment Program, designed to provide work opportunities to Fanshawe College full-time post-secondary or post diploma students with a demonstrated financial need. The Custodian, under the direction of the Building Manager, is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective cleaning of Fanshawe Student Union and its premises.
Responsibilities
- Clean lobbies, waiting rooms, office areas, and other common spaces using proper disinfectant protocols
- Clean and sanitize washrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors; restock supplies as needed
- Remove garbage and recycling from all designated areas
- Vacuum carpets and use floor polishing equipment as required
- Dust furniture, fixtures, and surfaces
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains
- Report any damages, maintenance needs, or vandalism
- Store cleaning supplies and equipment safely and maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Assist with room setup and cleanup for meetings, events, and other functions
- Follow WHMIS guidelines and other safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals
- Complete required logbooks and training (including health and safety training)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be a full-time Fanshawe College student approved for the Work Study program
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning protocols
- Capable of working independently and managing time effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- First Aid and WHMIS certification are considered assets
