About the Role
Perkins&Will San Francisco Studio seeks an entrepreneurial Practice Leader and Managing Principal to lead strategic growth for our Healthcare design practice. This role requires a confident client engagement leader who excels in business development, cultivates strong relationships, and represents the firm through public presentations and industry forums. The successful candidate will also be a collaborative team builder, actively engaged in talent development, marketing strategy, and regional and firmwide practice initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver on project strategy, integrating research, living design, and JEDI principles for overall project success, including client and team satisfaction and financial performance.
- Partner with studio and/or firmwide practice leaders to integrate the services of other disciplines into projects.
- Participate in business development, build client and partner relationships, and craft pursuit and relationship management strategies aligned with firm goals.
- Strategically direct project work plans, including selecting, bidding, negotiating, and contracting sub-consultants.
- Guide project teams in all phases in partnership with the Design Principal, technical leader, Project Manager, and regenerative design leadership.
- Monitor project financial performance and oversee prompt invoicing of professional services fees.
- Ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables and prompt resolution of disputes.
- Mitigate firm risk by reviewing pending agreements and bringing forward potential risks.
- Celebrate the success of individuals, teams, and project outcomes.
- Lead, inspire, mentor, develop, and partner with team members to achieve project success.
- Monitor overall project progress, ensuring effective internal and external team communication.
- Review project schedules, financials, staffing requirements, consultants, resources, and issues with Operations Director and Project Manager(s).
- Review project financial metrics, including budget, profit goals, client and sub-consultant contracts, and accounts receivable and payable with Operations Director.
- Ensure projects are on time, on budget, and of exceptional quality.
- Support marketing and sales efforts in collaboration with key leaders and the marketing team.
- Represent the firm externally in the industry and broader business and client community.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination between all disciplines and parties on assigned projects.
- Resolve disputes and conflicts related to assigned projects and Clients.
- Accountable for the quality of service and profitability on assigned projects.
- Engage in extensive and independent contact with Clients and consultants.
- Interact and negotiate with Client project representatives.
- Direct and/or participate in client meetings, presentations, and site visits.
- Inform MOD of all circumstances that could negatively affect projects or Clients.
Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of experience leading healthcare projects and client relations.
- Considerable knowledge and experience leading and managing successful projects, client relationships, and teams at various scales.
- Strong commitment to design excellence, innovation, high-quality design and personalized client services.
- Ability to influence clients, business partners, and project teams in a professional and compelling way.
- Excellent communicator with intellectual curiosity and strategic thinking.
- Proficiency in Vantagepoint.
- Proficiency in PMTK (Project Management Tool Kit) and other relevant internal platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- LEED GA within 6 months of hire.
- Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design (LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation).
- Architectural license, NCIDQ preferred or LARE as appropriate.
- Professional Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or another design-related field.
