About the Role

The Wellbeing Outreach Advisor will work as part of a wider team in Lewisham adult mental health services, providing person-centred, goal-oriented support to improve participants' quality of life. The role focuses on building bridges with harder-to-reach individuals in the community through timely, targeted 1-2-1 support and group workshops, aiming to improve mental health, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals on a focused, time-limited basis (up to 12 weeks) through one-to-one sessions and group workshops.
  • Meet service users primarily in community premises across the Lewisham borough.
  • Undertake risk management assessments and ensure safeguarding of individuals.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and empowerment of individuals by leveraging knowledge of local opportunities.
  • Design and facilitate group workshops in the community.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with local community and mental health services for cohesive outreach support.
  • Maintain open, honest, and transparent professional relationships.
  • Forge and maintain relationships with other community agencies.
  • Share knowledge, skills, and experience within the team while observing confidentiality.
  • Promote engagement within the community as a key factor in recovery and self-management.
  • Empower individuals to exercise choice and control through a person-centred service.
  • Maintain and build upon good working knowledge of IT to progress working practices.
  • Record and report on activity and outcomes, sharing examples of good practice.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and share them with individuals.
  • Promote opportunities for supported individuals to lead in service development.
  • Support volunteers, including peer supporters.
  • Raise aspirations and support the growth of this new service.
  • Increase community engagement and awareness of this new service.
  • Enable individuals to lead full lives without relying solely on conventional mental health services.
  • Ensure individuals complete Wellbeing Plans & Safety Plans.
  • Ensure individuals lead their own journey and have control over their lives.
  • Treat information relating to people worked with in the strictest confidence, discussing with colleagues only with prior consent unless in cases of risk.
  • Treat information relating to staff in the strictest confidence and discuss only with senior staff or line manager.
  • Amend and add to responsibilities as required by future policy changes.

Requirements

  • Understanding of issues surrounding mental health and factors affecting those experiencing or recovering from mental illness.
  • Proven skills in managing a busy workload.
  • Experience of working autonomously.
  • Ability to plan ahead while retaining capacity for flexible working.
  • Efficiently maintain appropriate records, including use of information technology.
  • Willing and able to engage with databases and activity capture systems daily.
  • Proven ability to build rapport and present a positive image.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain appropriate, person-centred professional client/worker relationships.
  • Good, clear, and adaptable communication skills.
  • Willing and able to maintain free-flowing, transparent communication between worker and person supported.
  • Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds.
