About the Role
The Underwriter, Warranty will be responsible for assessing the performance, structure, and reserve adequacy of warranty programs, and the credit worthiness of program administrators. The successful applicant will be passionate, and results oriented with the ability to build and maintain relationships with new and existing clients.
Responsibilities
- Support the team with underwriting new business applications for Warranty programs in accordance with Trisura’s underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Review and negotiate specific terms and conditions in warranties, insurance policies, and indemnity documents.
- Evaluate exposures and determine the appropriate structure, terms, and pricing.
- Analyze and monitor the financial strength, operational capabilities, and performance of program administrators.
- Participate in team strategy and product development.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
- Actively support marketing efforts, including broker outreach, pipeline development, and sourcing of new business opportunities.
- Represent Trisura at industry events, broker meetings, and association functions to strengthen market presence and relationships.
- Maintain an understanding of relevant industry trends and competitor offerings and their impact on underwriting strategy.
Requirements
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and external customers.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage underwriting workflows and ensure accuracy in documentation and data.
- High level of personal integrity, strong work ethic and initiative.
- Proven ability to respond to broker and partner inquiries promptly, maintain strong relationships, and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional underwriting team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to adapt to and learn new software.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to evaluate risks and develop practical underwriting solutions.
- Innovative, self-motivated, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs.
- Ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within a collaborative, team-based underwriting environment.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume, entrepreneurial setting while maintaining underwriting discipline and service excellence.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Successful completion of a University degree.
- 3+ years of experience in the insurance or automotive industry; exposure to automotive warranty products is considered a definite asset.
- Proficiency with MS office suite.
- Ability to synthesize data into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Experience working in a client facing environment.
