About the Role

Manages capital projects from concept to completion, focusing on planning, design, and construction administration. Responsibilities include planning, design, review of construction documents, bidding, award, and construction administration as needed. Assists senior project management staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide general assistance in planning and programming, design, bidding, budget preparation, scheduling, managing construction projects, and related activities.
  • Coordinate and interact with NYBG staff, architects, engineers, contractors, construction managers, consultants, and public agencies.
  • Perform on-site inspection and direction of construction typical of construction administrative services.
  • Observe all aspects of projects from initiation to completion.
  • Manage and coordinate consultants and contractors.

Requirements

  • Licensed Architect preferred, with a focus on technical skills including materials, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Experience in designing and executing small-scale in-house design projects from design through construction.
  • Experience managing consultant teams designing large projects.
  • Minimum 8 years of full-time experience in design and construction project management.
  • Experience includes planning, administering, managing, coordinating, and expediting large- and small-scale projects.
  • Experience monitoring and supervising multi-disciplinary consultant design and/or construction management teams.
  • Experience includes construction document preparation, pre-construction reviews, design and construction scheduling, construction administration, and post-construction tasks.
  • Experience with public facilities and cultural institutions preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Knowledge of Design and Construction Contracting.
  • Thorough understanding of Construction Practices with construction phase experience.
  • Experience with the submittal and shop drawing review process.
  • Experience with on-site inspections.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, graphic, and written).

  • Interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work under moderate and loud work conditions.
  • Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on projects.
