About the Role
The Patient Advocacy & Communication (PA&C) Head is a critical role for the Japan Oncology Business Unit (JOBU), responsible for establishing and executing external and internal communication and patient advocacy strategies. This role is key to building trust and enhancing the company's reputation, aligning with the vision to cure cancer. The PA&C Head will lead CSR and donation initiatives, ensuring strategic alignment with patient-centric priorities and effective communication to strengthen trust and reputation. Amplifying patient voices is central to driving business and delivering innovative medicines, informing clinical trial design, patient impact understanding, policy changes, and real-world insights into medicine impact. This function is integrated into one role due to the importance of patient advocacy and communications.
Responsibilities
- Formulate short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for patient advocacy activities.
- Build strong relationships of trust with patient advocacy groups.
- Implement compliance through appropriate process management in collaboration with patient advocacy groups.
- Build a mechanism for patients and their families to gain knowledge of cancer-related diseases and treatments.
- Promote internal activities to deepen employee understanding of patients' and their families' feelings and provide support.
- Support activities and events hosted by patient advocacy groups.
- Formulate short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for internal and external communication.
- Strengthen the reputation and brand of JOBU through effective means and content of communications.
- Ensure transparency to external stakeholders through timely and appropriate information disclosure.
- Conduct effective external communications through appropriate management of external media.
- Enhance employee engagement through accurate and effective internal communication activities.
- Develop and execute a CSR and strategic donation plan aligned with JOBU’s patient-centric vision and communication strategy.
- Establish governance and ensure compliance for all CSR/donation activities, including due diligence, documentation, approval processes, and transparent record management.
- Measure and communicate the impact of CSR and donation initiatives through clear objectives, KPIs, and internal/external communications.
- Demonstrate leadership in managing broader business and making decisions as a member of the Japan Oncology Leadership Team (JOLT) and Global Oncology Patient Advocacy & Communications Leadership Team.
- Hire, coach, develop, inspire, motivate, and retain team members.
- Elevate organizational capabilities for sustainable operations.
- Partner with cross-functional groups by providing expertise, insights, and well-founded recommendations.
- Create a compelling and robust development and succession plan for the position.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in developing and executing communication strategies (Investors Relations / Customer Relations / Employee Relations) by effectively managing external vendors, agencies, and media.
- Ability to demonstrate agility to adapt to fast-changing external environments.
- Project management skills in resourcing and timelines, with the ability to provide hands-on coaching to team members.
- Keen interest in new digital technology.
- Experience in managing people/a team.
- Experience in leading change management.
- Excellent capability to manage multiple projects in parallel in collaboration with related functions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence, lead, negotiate, and work effectively at all levels within a matrix and multicultural environment by embracing “Diversity and Inclusion”.
- Enthusiasm, confidence, and the ability to develop the capabilities of the organization and individuals within the team.
- Capability to demonstrate enterprise strategic thinking, initiative, and creativity.
- Strong ability in problem identification and problem-solving with prioritization in implementation.
- Native-level Japanese speaking, writing, and reading skills are required.
- Ability to communicate or understand written or listening in local Japanese language after appointment (N-3 level within 6 months to reach N-2 level within a year upon assignment).
