About the Role
The Manager serves the community by ensuring the safe transportation of students while upholding Palmer Bus Service’s core values through professional, respectful, and dignified leadership.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee terminal site routing, scheduling, and daily operations.
- Hire, train, direct, and discipline personnel to optimize human and physical assets.
- Complete yearly behind-the-wheel evaluations for drivers.
- Set up and maintain routes to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Direct and supervise fleet repair and maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs.
- Manage administrative functions including new hires, billing, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Implement and ensure 100% compliance with safety and training programs.
- Maintain documentation for safety, medical certification, and drug/alcohol testing.
- Assess and respond to incidents, accidents, and complaints during and after hours.
- Advise school district administration on inclement weather conditions.
- Communicate with parents and guardians to resolve student issues.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain services.
- Prepare and maintain operational documentation such as personnel files and safety logs.
- Ensure cleanliness of the site and all vehicles.
- Develop and manage short- and long-range transportation plans with the school district.
- Report issues and problems to senior management.
- Attend professional development activities and coordinate staff training.
- Cover school bus routes or dispatch duties as needed.
Requirements
- Prior management or supervisory experience.
- Proven track record of onboarding, training, and motivating employees.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements.
- Knowledge of school bus licensing, behind-the-wheel certification, and first aid training.
- Knowledge of MNDOT inspection requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to wear company-issued uniforms and protective safety gear.
- Ability to work indoors and occasionally perform road-side repairs or work inside buses.
