About the Role

The Finance Generalist provides essential accounting, financial, and clerical support to Toronto Harbour Light Ministries and its associated sites, ensuring accurate transaction handling and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile daily transaction registers to incoming cash reports and deposit slips.
  • Respond to complex vendor inquiries.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of detailed ledgers and financial reports, ensuring proper expense coding.
  • Manage all cash and cheque handling procedures, confirming transaction completeness and accuracy.
  • Reconcile and update payment information, complete and distribute deposit summaries, process donations, and issue official donation receipts.
  • Maintain program/department purchase order (PO) tracking spreadsheets, matching invoices to POs and obtaining necessary authorizations.
  • Manage petty cash funds, gift cards, bus tickets, and vouchers, tracking all records.
  • Record cash receipts in proper general ledger accounts, including accounts receivable and loan sub-ledgers.
  • Record donations received via internet and other revenue collection processes.
  • Complete required reconciliations to ensure process accuracy.
  • Record accounts payable based on invoices and approved documents, distributing expenses to the general ledger.
  • Enter account coding and ensure appropriate tax rebate claims.
  • Establish invoices as accruals or prepaids in line with policy.
  • Ensure disbursements are supported by adequate documentation and proper approval.
  • Prepare various accruals as required.
  • Maintain and reconcile AR and AP sub-ledgers.
  • Initiate all transactions by the due date.
  • Ensure transactions are reflected in the proper accounting period.
  • Prepare, code, and process invoices in Business World (Accounting System).
  • Process and enter personal and corporate visa travel and expense claims, Voucher Request Forms, and Internal Payment Forms/Request to Charge.
  • Perform other assigned work-related duties.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma plus a formal post-secondary/college certificate program or specialized courses or certification.
  • Two years of prior related experience in the accounting/finance field.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
