About the Role
The Principal Engineer (Process Packaged Units) will be responsible for all aspects of the gas treatment plant, from conception to completion. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise in gas treatment plants, and the ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success. The role involves overseeing a multidisciplinary process and working closely with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and installation teams to deliver plants on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, tendering, technical requirements, scheduling, evaluation, award, and execution of packaged equipment units.
- Prepare technical documentation for orders, such as technical supply conditions and mechanical data sheets.
- Monitor project progress and address any issues or challenges during the execution phase.
- Provide technical advice and support to the engineering team throughout the design phase and collaborate with equipment vendors and subcontractors.
- Review vendor technical drawings, specifications, and calculations for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare a technical bid overview and technical evaluation for all types of process package units submitted by vendors.
- Review, comment on, and finalize all vendor drawings in coordination with other process or technical areas.
- Conduct technical reviews and participate in design reviews to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the vendor, project manager/lead, and other stakeholders, maintaining regular communication.
- Ensure inspections and audits are performed during the manufacturing and assembly process to identify and resolve quality issues promptly.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare the bill of materials to support construction cost estimation.
- Support procurement in technical negotiations with vendors.
- Participate in site acceptance tests for various items as per the order.
- Identify scope changes or deviations and promptly issue change notices with supporting documentation and cost estimates.
- Finalize delivery lists and shipments, ensuring compliance with specifications and functional integrity.
- Support procurement, including preparing, reviewing, and approving purchase requisitions, evaluating technical proposals, preparing inquiries, developing bid breakdowns and recommendations, and preparing purchase requirements.
- Review and approve proposals from vendors and subcontractors, checking compliance with project specifications and providing comments.
- Review final data handbooks from subcontractors and vendors to ensure all requested data is received and approved.
- Create clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures.
- Participate in HAZOP and 3D meetings as required.
- Review, create, and participate in the approval of detailed technical documents/deliverables such as specifications and data sheets for mechanical equipment, vendor inspection and test plan (ITP), and spare parts plan.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in managing complete plants, preferably with a focus on gas treatment plants.
- Solid technical knowledge of gas treatment plants, including compressors, separators, dehydration units, and other associated components.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects from conception to completion.
- Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and standards (e.g., CE, ASME, API, ANSI).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
