About the Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (m/w/d), you will play a central role in the Mechanical Design Team, leveraging your experience to bring complex plant components and systems to market. You will contribute to the technological advancement of our products and the successful implementation of international projects.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Mechanical Design Team in design reviews.
- Support the development of systems and processes in mechanical design with the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer and Product Design Manager.
- Create plant layouts including individual parts, assemblies, general arrangement drawings, and standardized customer deliveries.
- Work with containerized products, piping, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, and other process equipment in plant planning.
- Support the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer in coaching and mentoring Mechanical Design Engineers and Junior Design Engineers.
- Assist in reviewing drawings created by Design Engineers and Junior Engineers before final release.
- Support drawing release and manage data (PDM / Microsoft Dynamics).
Requirements
- Successfully executed designs, plant layouts, and associated documentation for various projects.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, including PDM Vault and automated workflows.
- Good knowledge of parametric modeling.
- Strong understanding of Bill of Materials structures, SolidWorks properties, and part numbering systems.
- Ability to create high-level manufacturing and assembly drawings, including GA drawings, with a focus on GD&T.
- Ability to question design decisions.
- Experience in designing piping systems with pumps, valves, and connections.
- Good knowledge of welding, sheet metal fabrication, and frame construction.
- Understanding of fluid hydraulics, including pressure drop, head, flow, pump operation, filtering, and control.
- Completed degree (preferably Mechanical Engineering) or comparable qualification with at least 8 years of professional experience in piping planning and construction.
- Ability to guide junior engineers and serve as a role model.
- Experience in team leadership (e.g., vacation planning, time tracking, resource management, conflict resolution).
- Support the Lead Engineer in knowledge building, best practices, and continuous team development.
- Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, including customer contact when needed.
- Systematic approach to problem-solving with mechanical fundamentals, root cause analysis, and improvement processes.
- Ability to analyze faulty components (FMEA competence).
- Understanding of business processes and management systems.
- Strong communication skills across all company departments.
- Understanding of change processes and management of deviations.
- Excellent time management and prioritization.
- Support suppliers and production staff with technical questions.
- Evaluate components and processes for cost-effectiveness and reliability.
- Knowledge of PED & ATEX.
- Experience with steel and plastic piping and mechanical understanding.
- Experience with PFDs and P&IDs, components, and their piping.
- Knowledge of pressure, temperature, flow, and level, and associated measurement technology.
- Experience with various software solutions: PDS, PDMS, SP3D, E3D, AutoCAD, SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of the performance of pressure vessels, pumps, and heat exchangers.
- Experience with pressure equipment and pressure vessels (including PED).
- Knowledge of product design and machinery directives, and creation of product specifications.
- Experience with stress analysis and verification calculations, e.g., with FEA software.
- Familiarity with ATEX directives and potentially explosive areas.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, bills of materials, and MRP systems.
- Deep understanding of ISO and ASME standards for plant and process construction.
- Knowledge of compliance, zoning, and building regulations.
- Experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or hydrocarbon industry.
