About the Role
Oversee intricate tax engagements from planning to delivery, manage client relationships and firm deadlines, and provide technical guidance to tax professionals. This role covers individual, corporate, partnership, multistate, and international tax matters.
Responsibilities
- Direct the full lifecycle of tax engagements from initial planning to final delivery.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of projects in alignment with client expectations.
- Cultivate a profound understanding of clients’ industries, businesses, and specific tax obligations.
- Prepare and meticulously review tax returns, extensions, tax-planning computations, and related documents.
- Conduct detailed reviews of complex individual, partnership, C corporation, and S corporation tax returns.
- Generate and assess sophisticated tax-planning projections for both individuals and business entities.
- Oversee client deliverables, filing requirements, engagement status, and due dates.
- Prepare and review U.S. federal, multistate, and international income tax returns.
- Undertake complex tax research and draft memoranda that summarize findings and conclusions.
- Manage responses to IRS and state tax agency audits, inquiries, notices, and related correspondence.
- Foster direct communication with clients, firm leadership, colleagues, and government representatives.
- Delegate tasks to tax staff, while providing critical accounting and tax technical support.
- Review team deliverables, contribute to staff training, and facilitate career development.
- Participate in business development initiatives, including prospective-client meetings, fee proposals, and engagements.
- Contribute to enhancements in the firm’s tax software, workflows, and process efficiencies.
- Execute consulting engagements and special projects as requested by clients or firm leadership.
- Report directly to the partners of the tax department.
Requirements
- Active CPA designation or Enrolled Agent credential.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.
- A minimum of 7 years of tax experience in a public accounting context.
- Proficiency in individual, C corporation, S corporation, and partnership taxation.
- Experience with the preparation and review of sophisticated federal and multistate tax returns.
- Skilled in preparing and evaluating complex tax-planning projections.
- Proven track record in managing tax engagements and supervising or reviewing the work of tax staff.
- Must reside within commuting distance of Woodbury, New York, with the capacity to maintain a hybrid work schedule.
