About the Role
The VP, Tax-Aware Investing will shape and advance the firm's tax philosophy, tax-aware investment capabilities, and advisor-facing tax narrative. This role is crucial for delivering better after-tax outcomes for Canadians and building advisor confidence in tax-efficient investing, a growing demand in personalized portfolio solutions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key subject matter expert on tax-aware investing and after-tax portfolio outcomes.
- Develop frameworks and strategies to improve after-tax returns across investment portfolios and client segments.
- Partner with Portfolio Management teams to incorporate tax efficiency into portfolio construction, asset location, capital gains management, and income strategies.
- Advise on tax implications related to product design, investment strategies, and client outcomes.
- Stay current on Canadian tax legislation, CRA guidance, and emerging trends, assessing implications for clients, portfolios, and the firm’s investment offerings.
- Apply expertise across income tax strategies, wealth transfer planning, estate considerations, concentrated positions, and registered account optimization.
- Act as a trusted resource for advisors across Canada, building credibility and presence over time.
- Partner with Distribution teams in advisor meetings, conferences, roadshows, webinars, and key client events.
- Develop practical tools, insights, and educational materials that help advisors communicate the value of tax-aware investing to their clients.
- Support PICTON’s growth objectives by strengthening advisor confidence, deepening relationships, and contributing to asset growth and net flows.
- Maintain a strong pulse on advisor needs, competitive dynamics, and evolving client expectations within Canadian wealth management.
- Help develop and refine PICTON’s tax philosophy and advisor-facing tax narrative.
- Create clear, compelling, and substantiated messaging around tax-aware investing, after-tax returns, tax-loss harvesting, and tax-efficient investment strategies.
- Partner with Compliance, Legal, Marketing, and Product teams to ensure all tax-related communications are accurate, balanced, and effective.
- Develop white papers, articles, videos, podcasts, presentations, and other thought leadership materials that help advisors and investors engage with tax-aware investing.
- Represent PICTON at industry conferences, client events, and in media, with the opportunity to grow into a recognized industry voice.
- Partner with Product and Investment teams to develop and evolve tax-aware investment solutions, including direct indexing, personalized portfolios, tax-loss harvesting strategies, tax-efficient income solutions, after-tax performance analytics, and new tax-aware portfolio construction methodologies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, research, and industry best practices related to tax optimization and personalization.
Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively in support of advisor and client engagement.
- Existing industry registration, or ability to obtain registration if required.
- French bilingual capability is a meaningful asset given PICTON’s advisor and client presence in Québec.
- Strong technical grounding in tax and investments.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Judgment to navigate a regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian personal taxation, investment taxation, and tax-efficient portfolio construction.
- Strong working knowledge across income tax strategies, wealth transfer planning, estate planning, trust structures, registered accounts, and concentrated position solutions.
- Strong understanding of portfolio management, wealth management, and investment products, including alternatives.
- Experience working with advisors, investment firms, portfolio managers, or high-net-worth clients.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for advisors and investors, including in live settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience creating content or speaking publicly is an asset.
- Experience partnering with Compliance and Marketing teams to develop advisor- and investor-facing communications within a regulated environment.
- An existing or developing profile through speaking, writing, or industry contributions is an asset.
