About the Role
The Attorney General is seeking applications for appointment as Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court of NSW. Commissioners exercise the Court's jurisdiction to determine cases through conciliation or hearing, or assist a Judge. Appointments are full-time for a seven-year term.
Responsibilities
- Exercise the jurisdiction of the Court to determine certain cases by conciliation or hearing.
- Assist a Judge of the Court when the Judge is exercising the jurisdiction of the Court.
Requirements
- Must have at least one qualification detailed in section 12 of the Land and Environment Court Act 1979 (e.g., local government administration, town or country planning, environmental planning, environmental science, arboriculture, environmental assessment, land valuation, architecture, engineering, surveying, building construction, management of natural resources and Crown land, urban design or heritage, land rights for Aboriginal people, or be an Australian lawyer).
- Hold a current NSW Driver Licence.
- Willing and capable of driving for the purposes of work.
- Willing to obtain mediator accreditation under the National Mediator Accreditation System if not already qualified.
- Comply with pecuniary interest and conflict of interest provisions in sections 12(2B) and 14(1) of the Land and Environment Court Act 1979 for the duration of the appointment.
- Probity checks will be conducted.
Skills
- Special knowledge and experience in fields such as local government administration, town or country planning, environmental planning, environmental science, arboriculture, environmental assessment, land valuation, architecture, engineering, surveying, building construction, management of natural resources and Crown land, urban design or heritage, land rights for Aboriginal people.
- Australian lawyer qualification.
- Mediator accreditation (desirable, required after appointment if not already qualified).
