About the Role

CASA of Travis County believes every child who's experienced abuse or neglect deserves a dedicated advocate. This role supervises volunteers who advocate for children in court, school, and the community, ensuring their needs are prioritized within the child welfare system. The specialist guides and coaches volunteers, making recommendations to the court and working towards safe, permanent placements for children.

Responsibilities

Supervise volunteer advocates in their role as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Guardians ad Litem.
Supervise no more than 18-20 volunteer advocates and a maximum of 30 family groups.
Attend and participate in case-related meetings with Volunteer Advocates.
Attend and participate in court hearings, assisting and coaching volunteer advocates.
Provide volunteer advocates with information and professional contacts regarding community resources.
Facilitate the provision of direct services such as food, lodging, and emergency funds.
Provide information and resources related to Crime Victim’s Compensation and SAVNS.
Guide and supervise volunteer advocates in placement selections and recommendations to the Court.
Assist volunteer advocates in identifying permanency planning issues and moving cases toward safe placement.
Attend and participate in volunteer-related events for recruitment and retention.
Complete annual volunteer evaluations and provide regular coaching.
Fulfill performance standards through monitoring, supervision, incident reporting, and shadowing.
Ensure children are seen by an advocate within prescribed timeframes.
Collaborate with other professionals alongside the Volunteer Advocate.
Provide consistent guidance, coaching, feedback, encouragement, and praise to volunteer advocates.
Provide timely notification of staffings, meetings, and court hearings to volunteer advocates.
Provide guidance, assistance, and review of volunteer advocates’ written and oral reports to the Court.
Lead onboarding of new volunteer advocates and provide ongoing training.
Foster relationships between volunteer advocates and other professionals, and with children/families.
Enhance volunteer advocate engagement and retention by coaching skills, evaluating experiences, and matching cases.
Coach volunteer advocates who are not meeting expectations and provide feedback.
Ensure the high standard of performance of services.
Model a commitment to child safety and volunteer engagement.
Participate in regular supervision with their Program Manager.
Support team members by providing coverage for meetings and court hearings.
Maintain accurate and complete case records.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation of volunteer advocate supervision records.
Submit accurate and timely case and volunteer report data.
Attend and participate in continuing education opportunities.
Assist with program development and evaluation.
Attend and actively participate in required CASA meetings.
Participate in committees as needed.
Serve as the guardian ad litem on assigned cases when volunteer advocate assignment is not appropriate or possible.
Assist Director of Volunteer Engagement with volunteer advocate training and retention efforts.
Assist with fundraising events as needed.
Attend and participate in community meetings as directed.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree is required; significant professional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Spanish fluency preferred.
Experience in providing staff or volunteer supervision.
Ability to manage people.
Demonstrated ability to concisely and clearly convey and interpret information to and from others, orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints, be goal-oriented and maintain productive and effective performance.
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with others, regardless of differing perspectives.
Demonstrated understanding of child and family advocacy issues as it relates to the child welfare system.
Demonstrated resilience, flexibility and self-awareness.
Must have daily transportation to attend court hearings, staffings, visitations, fundraising events, etc.
Requires a flexible schedule, as visits with Advocates may occur in the evenings or on weekends.
