About the Role
This position will assist with the efficient and effective delivery of the Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) program as part of a leadership team, providing leadership to a multi-disciplinary team responsible for preventing vaccine-preventable diseases in the community.
Responsibilities
- Provide input and assistance with schedules, workload distribution and assignments, and communicate these to the team, including arranging coverage for various job roles.
- Oversee and support the work of team members and troubleshoot problems arising in daily work activities.
- Provide coaching, development, and mentoring to the team, including clinical supervision and reflective practice.
- Assist with the recruitment, training and orientation of new staff members.
- Responsibility for performance management and annual evaluations of direct reports.
- Respond to complaints from the public and resolve related performance issues.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement, seek solutions, and make recommendations.
- Maintain up-to-date team protocols, medical directives and processes, assess when a change is required, and communicate updates to the team.
- Be available to frontline staff during their workday if they have questions or require direction.
- Support team members with complex clinical/client interactions, providing guidance and assessment based on applicable regulatory body standards (e.g. CNO).
- Support planning and lead implementation of staff continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure staff function in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines, and service area and agency policies and procedures.
- Implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and reports.
- Identify and handle program-related issues and escalations raised by team members, including recommending mitigation strategies.
- Utilize effective communication and collaboration strategies with team members, leadership team members and other staff.
- Support the Manager, VPD in maintaining and managing fiscal resources, budget and reporting requirements.
- Provide back-up coverage for other leaders on the team.
- Be available for flexible work hours and on-call rotation.
- Complete other duties as required.
Requirements
- A four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is required.
- Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO) is required.
- Minimum five years of experience in public health, which includes a minimum of one year experience in a leadership role.
- Familiarity with relevant Regulations and Guidelines as well as the Ontario Public Health Standards, legislation and protocols is required.
- Effective communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Expertise in working with diverse populations, as well as demonstrated understanding of and experience in addressing health inequities.
- Demonstrated ability to create a safe work environment.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively collaborate with others.
- Excellent computer skills in the areas of documentation and MS Office, as well as proficiency with public health information systems and Panorama.
- Knowledge of the principles of health equity, and why it is a foundational standard for public health.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and/or communities to advance public health priorities.
- Excellent computer skills, with emphasis on MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
