About the Role

Booking Holdings is seeking an experienced lawyer to oversee the global legal affairs of Booking Holdings Financial Services (BHFS), a division providing payment services and e-money products across all Booking Holdings brands. This role involves managing legal affairs in multiple jurisdictions, liaising with brand legal teams, advising the BHFS Management Team on legal developments, and managing external counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the legal affairs of BHFS across regulated entities and business interests in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Act as the BHFS Legal lead for the BHFS program, liaising with brand legal teams to ensure brand considerations are included in the BHFS rollout.
  • Provide the BHFS Management Team with an overview of legal developments in payments and product ambitions.
  • Liaise directly with law firms and other stakeholders to maintain awareness of current legal matters.
  • Monitor the global legal affairs strategy and agenda of BHFS.
  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and business integrity as a member of the BHFS global Management Team.
  • Oversee daily operations across the BHFS enterprise.
  • Oversee the BHFS Program from the Legal perspective, acting as the legal point of contact for Brand legal teams.
  • Share strategic leadership responsibilities with the Management Team, legal entity boards, and other strategic managers.
  • Ensure staff are adequately deployed.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with colleagues within BHFS and BKNG Brands, suppliers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate complex flows (funds, value, data, relationships) against regulatory regimes.
  • Research, review, assess, and define external legal and regulatory expectations for business products and operations.
  • Partner with the business to shape relevant policy and procedure, highlighting risks and opportunities related to the Product roadmap.
  • Advise on the legal and regulatory horizon, alerting the business to relevant requirements, and helping the business map obligations and roadmap responses.
  • Act as a Member of the BHFSI Management Team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years PQE (Post-Qualifying Experience).
  • Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into accessible, practical, and actionable advice.
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate and problem-solve in a data-driven, international business.
  • Good commercial judgment, solutions-oriented, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with technology and a strong interest in financial technology and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Experience in managing and growing teams.
  • Payments regulatory experience, including engagement with applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Experience learning new areas of law and regulation in various jurisdictions.
  • Experience in regulatory implementation projects, including regulatory interpretation and working with member associations to influence legislation.
  • Experience identifying and liaising with local counsel globally, identifying suitable partners, commissioning work, and challenging deliverables.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulatory regimes and how Payments firms and products interact with these regimes.
  • Understanding of key legal and regulatory frameworks covering international money transfer, e-commerce, and online platforms.
  • Understanding of contract relationships, risk, and technology from a regulatory perspective.
  • Experience and understanding of the payments ecosystem (e.g., Digital Wallets, Card schemes, virtual credit card products (VCC)).
