About the Role
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day accounting and reporting of the main operations company and small holding companies, and will assist with ad hoc analysis as needed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare day-to-day accounting functions for the main operating company (AR, AP, bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, etc.)
- Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly finance reports used by senior management and preparation of PowerPoint slides
- Prepare month-end reporting packages to the parent company
- Assist with the annual audit, preparing required schedules and note disclosures for annual financial statements
- Assist with the preparation of holding company financial statements for annual tax return purposes
- Assist with the preparation and review of annual budgets
- Prepare monthly filing of HST and QST returns
- Prepare withholding tax on intercompany and foreign supplier transactions
- Participate in special projects as requested
- Prepare in-house concession month-end reporting requirements
- Review budget/forecast/objective analysis
- Review SPV costs for reasonableness
- Review effective interest and financial asset calculations
- Review construction and SPV margin adjustments to comply with corporate policy
- Assist in creating board presentations and related material as required

- Possess excellent organizational skills and is able to work with minimal supervision
- Understanding of critical planning of key accounting tasks in advance to ensure no issues with payments or deliverables, or other compliance matters are missed
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and set priorities as required

- QuickBooks experience is an asset

Experience Level
- 1-2 years considered an asset
Education Level
- B.A / B. Comm
- CPA designation/CPA candidate is a must
