About the Role
As a Dietary Aide in our senior living facility, your primary responsibility is to support the dietary department in providing nutritionally balanced and appealing meals to residents. You will assist with meal preparation, service, and other tasks related to maintaining a well-functioning dining environment. Your role is essential in ensuring the overall well-being and satisfaction of residents through excellent dining service.
Responsibilities
- Assist with meal service, including setting up dining areas, arranging table settings, and preparing trays for residents who require meal delivery to their rooms.
- Serve meals promptly and with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Clear tables and clean dining areas after meals.
- Work closely with the dietary department to understand residents' specific dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences.
- Ensure that meal orders are accurately communicated, and appropriate food substitutions are made when necessary.
- Provide assistance to residents in selecting suitable meal options.
- Follow proper sanitation and food safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation and dining areas, including surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
- Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in monitoring and restocking inventory, including food items, beverages, and supplies.
- Ensure that stock is rotated, labeled, and stored properly.
- Notify the appropriate staff when supplies need to be replenished to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Interact with residents in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Attend to residents' needs and requests promptly, striving to provide excellent customer service.
- Engage in conversation and build positive relationships with residents to enhance their dining experience.
- Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
- Operate dishwashing equipment or hand wash items as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness in the dishwashing area and ensure that dishes and utensils are properly stored.
- Collaborate with the culinary team, dining servers, and other dietary aides to ensure efficient and coordinated operations.
- Communicate effectively, share information, and assist colleagues as needed to create a smooth dining service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrate knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and proper handling of food.
- Adhere to hygiene protocols, including handwashing, wearing gloves when necessary, and maintaining clean and sanitized work areas.
- Understand residents' dietary restrictions, allergies, and nutritional guidelines.
- Familiarity with special diets, such as low-sodium, diabetic, or texture-modified diets.
- Follow instructions and accurately communicate dietary needs to the culinary team.
- Assist in meal preparation, including portioning, assembling, and plating food.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Adapt recipes or make substitutions as necessary to meet residents' dietary requirements.
- Provide prompt and courteous meal service to residents.
- Set up dining areas, arrange table settings, and ensure a welcoming and clean environment.
- Assist residents in selecting appropriate meal options and accommodating their preferences to enhance their dining experience.
- Interact with residents in a friendly, compassionate, and respectful manner.
- Actively listen to residents' needs and preferences, respond to inquiries, and address concerns promptly.
- Build positive relationships and foster a sense of community within the senior living environment.
- Manage time effectively to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure smooth meal service.
- Maintain organized workstations and storage areas.
- Assist in inventory control, restocking supplies, and rotating stock as needed.
- Adapt to changing dietary needs, menu modifications, and resident preferences.
- Be flexible in working various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Be open to learning and embracing new approaches or techniques in meal preparation and service.
- Work collaboratively with the culinary team, dietary staff, and other team members to achieve common goals.
- Communicate effectively, share information, and assist colleagues as needed to ensure efficient and coordinated operations.
- Pay close attention to detail to ensure accuracy in portioning, plating, and presentation of meals.
- Follow instructions precisely and double-check for any special dietary requirements or restrictions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation and dining areas.
- Clean dishes, utensils, and equipment promptly and thoroughly.
- Adhere to sanitation guidelines and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues.
- Previous experience in food service or customer service roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Basic understanding of dietary restrictions, allergies, and common nutritional guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift trays or equipment as required.
- Flexibility in working various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Proof of influenza vaccine is required (October-March) unless an approved medical or religious exemption is requested and received.
