About the Role
SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials Specialist to join its growing Environmental team in Ontario. This role involves overseeing assessments, evaluating risks, and developing mitigation strategies for hazardous materials in various infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Review previously completed investigations and reporting.
- Identify data gaps and commitments.
- Develop the scope and schedule related to their specialty.
- Lead the subject matter team tasked to complete investigations work and reporting.
- Incorporate requirements into design.
- Confirm that requirements and commitments are executed.
- Oversee Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials assessments related to demolition of buildings, roads, utilities, and miscellaneous materials.
- Evaluate potential risks for workers and develop mitigation and control measures in accordance with applicable legislation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of direct work-related experience.
- Experience in the identification and evaluation of Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials in accordance with relevant Ontario regulations.
- Experience in the development of mitigation measures and removal plans for Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials.
- Knowledge of federal, Ontario and municipal policies, standards and guidelines, procedures and legislation with respect to Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials.
- Ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities.
- Experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
