About the Role

Vanderlande is a global leader in logistics process automation. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of innovative automation solutions, working collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines to support projects from concept through to implementation. We are looking for individuals who enjoy solving engineering problems and developing their skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support automation projects by creating mechanical designs and layouts for airport baggage handling systems.
  • Interpret user and project requirements, assess feasibility, and apply relevant technical standards.
  • Collaborate with the Project Lead Engineer (PLE) and other disciplines to agree engineering activities, deliverables, and planning.
  • Contribute to technical decisions on mechanical components and interfaces in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Support design risk assessment activities and ensure mechanical designs comply with safety legislation, CDM requirements, and industry standards.
  • Support engineering planning activities, identify technical risks and opportunities, and contribute to project milestones.
  • Design solutions that can be manufactured within agreed budgets.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, suppliers, and third-party partners.
  • Coordinate third-party equipment specifications and integration.
  • Produce project layout packages using tools such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Maintain high-quality file and data management.
  • Produce clear engineering instructions and documentation.
  • Continuously develop skills and contribute to process improvements.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience of automated material handling, baggage handling, or similar industrial automation systems is advantageous.
  • Ensuring mechanical designs comply with applicable safety standards and regulations, including participation in design risk assessments and CDM activities, while considering manufacturability, project budgets and delivery requirements.
  • An interest in working within multidisciplinary engineering environments (mechanical, electrical, software, safety).
  • A structured approach to problem-solving, with attention to detail and quality.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with others.
  • An openness to learning, feedback, and continuous improvement.
