About the Role

In this key role, you will be responsible with your team for the digital distribution of our content, strategically develop our homepages, and take on the professional leadership of our editorial team.

Responsibilities

  • You will take on the professional leadership of our editorial team, continuously develop working methods and processes, and promote professional exchange within the team.
  • You are responsible for the homepage management of our publications and continuously develop our digital distribution strategies.
  • You manage current news, set editorial priorities, and ensure high-quality, relevant, and high-reach presentation of our content.
  • Together with the editor-in-chief and the departments, you will continuously develop standards, workflows, and best practices for the digital distribution of our content.
  • You analyze user behavior as well as reach and subscription data and derive concrete measures for optimizing our content and processes from this.
  • You work closely with editorial, video, social media, product, and other areas and ensure efficient workflows between the teams.
  • You develop new formats, workflows, and digital products and actively contribute your own ideas.
  • You are responsible for the quality assurance of our content and optimize headlines, teasers, and texts, taking into account journalistic standards and SEO aspects.
  • You monitor trends in digital journalism and identify potential for innovations, automation, and the sensible use of AI.
  • Together with the deputy head of editorial, you ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed journalistic studies, traineeship, or a comparable journalistic education.
  • Several years of experience in digital journalism and in the editorial management of a news homepage.
  • Experience in the professional leadership, coordination, or management of editorial teams and enjoyment of developing colleagues further.
  • Strong sense for news, topic weighting, headlines, and digital user needs.
  • Very good knowledge of SEO, audience development, and the use of analysis and traffic tools.
  • Analytical thinking, decisiveness, and a structured way of working.
  • Confident use of modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT) for research, text optimization, SEO, and process support, as well as the ability to critically evaluate AI results.
  • Strong communication skills, sense of responsibility, and enjoyment of cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Willingness to work shifts and weekends in a fair rotation.
