About the Role

The Manufacturing Technician- CNC Optics Manufacturing position is responsible for generating, polishing, and turning of optical components (precision lenses) using CNC Optics and Diamond Turning machines with 2, 3, 4, and NC axes equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex mechanical and optical schematics, ensuring precise execution of assembly, integration and testing procedures.
  • Grind, polish, edge, turn and troubleshoot complex optical components following established manufacturing processes and procedures in alignment with AS9100 standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot spherical and Aspheric optical components, including visible and IR optics, achieving surface form requirements and inspecting to drawing requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve faults by collaborating with senior technicians and engineers, contributing to continuous product development and process improvement.
  • Manage multiple priorities, manufacturing testing, measuring, and troubleshooting tasks to meet critical project timelines and production goals.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with Operation Engineers, production teams, and management to tackle complex technical challenges and drive innovative solutions.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation, maintaining detailed records of maintenance, test results, troubleshooting efforts, and implemented solutions, including PM on manufacturing machines and tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying inefficiencies, recommending enhancements, and implementing best practices to optimize performance and workflow efficiency.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to read and interpret optical & mechanical drawings and test procedures.
  • Experience in assembling, configuring, and testing complex opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in identifying, analyzing, and resolving optical and mechanical issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with engineers, production teams, and management.
  • Good English communication skills in both written and verbal that translate into working in a team-based environment.
  • Abilities to think critically, identify inefficiencies in processes, suggest improvements, and be open-minded to change.
  • High standards in quality with attention to detail.
  • Capable of learning and taking on new tasks with an increasing level of responsibility.
  • Ability to safely handle delicate optical parts and on occasion lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
  • Must be eligible for registering with Controlled Goods Program of Canada.
  • Ability to effectively operate complicated equipment such as Precision Optics and Diamond Turned CNC and associated equipment.

Salary/Compensations

  • $30-35/hr
