About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will own every dollar that moves through the company's stack, serving as the technical bridge between the product and public systems. You will work directly alongside the co-founders to manage money movement from card issuing to disbursements, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Design a money movement flow including ledgered internal state, transaction lifecycle management, idempotency, retries, and deterministic replay.
  • Build high-trust, reliable reconciliation between internal ledger, card network events, banking events, and vendor/provider reports.
  • Develop tooling to investigate reconciliation mismatches rapidly.
  • Minimize operational risk by building guardrails to prevent bad states like double-spend or inconsistent balances.
  • Own and evolve a multi-service monorepo for an event-driven pipeline, payments API, balance healthchecks, and regulatory reporting jobs.
  • Make architecture-level decisions for securely and reliably handling billions of dollars in state-funded educational payments.
  • Ensure ledger integrity by keeping independent ledgers aligned despite asynchronous event processing.
  • Build and improve automated healthcheck and reconciliation systems to catch discrepancies immediately.

Requirements

  • Obsessive about correctness, understanding the compounding effect of small errors.
  • Ability to build predictable systems that remain reliable under varying loads.
  • Desire for ownership and trust in managing financial operations.
  • High-auditability mindset with the ability to trace transactions through all system layers.
  • Willingness to relocate to San Francisco, CA, or Phoenix, AZ.
  • Ability to travel to visit customers.
  • Experience with Lithic, Column, LoanPro, Stripe Issuing, or comparable card and banking infrastructure is a strong plus.
