About the Role

St. Michael’s Prep is seeking a substitute school nurse to serve as the health and wellness expert for approximately 900 students across PreK-12th grade. This part-time, on-call position offers the opportunity to work 10 months of the year.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality nursing care to ill or injured students or faculty/staff.
• Provide health information and in-service programs on health topics to students, parents, and faculty.
• Manage school health records in accordance with State of Texas and Diocese of Austin requirements.
• Maintain accurate medical records for compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
• Act as a liaison between home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance health and wellness.
• Maintain electronic health records within the school website system (Experience with Magnus).
• Communicate with administrators, teachers, staff, and families to meet student health and safety needs.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of school health policies.
• Coordinate student health curriculum with the physical education department.
• Multitask and manage the simultaneous needs of diabetic students and medication or first aid administration for other students.

Requirements

• Knowledge of children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
• Excellent communication, oral, written, and interpersonal skills with children and adults.
• Care, good judgment, and confidentiality in working with students and parents.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Experience with diabetic children and their daily health care needs.
• Experience with managing other unique medical conditions.
• Experience with managing a peanut “aware” environment.

Skills

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure-Current in the State of Texas
• Current First Aid certification
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
• Magnus (for electronic health records)
