About the Role

We are a busy, warm, and active family seeking a trusted Household Manager / Family Assistant to become an integral part of our home. This role is a true partnership between childcare and household management, requiring someone who can proactively help make life easier, enjoy improving systems, prepare meals, manage logistics, and be a positive, reliable presence for our children. We value someone who can adapt as our needs shift throughout the year and sees opportunities to make our home more functional, organized, and enjoyable. Responsibilities

  • Provide daily school pickups at 3:00 PM and after-school support.
  • Manage transportation to activities, including sports practices and weekly extracurricular commitments.
  • Prepare school lunches, snacks, and help manage school-related logistics.
  • Stay actively connected to school calendars, including projects, events, theme days, and important deadlines.
  • Support children with light academic engagement and positive reinforcement.
  • Help manage sports equipment, school papers, backpacks, and after-school routines.
  • Assist with kid-related errands, birthday party preparation, gift shopping, and wrapping.
  • Provide flexibility for sick days, including earlier starts and full-day childcare support as needed.
  • Be a consistent, positive adult presence who is engaged in the children’s daily lives.
  • Maintain and improve upon existing household organizational systems.
  • Act as a project manager for the household by reviewing upcoming needs, anticipating challenges, and helping keep things moving.
  • Complete daily resets and prepare the home for cleaners (1x weekly).
  • Light tidying (dishes, wiping surfaces, wiping high-traffic areas).
  • Support seasonal clothing, décor, and bedding swaps.
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs and organization projects.
  • Assist with event, holiday, and guest preparation.
  • Pack and unpack for family travel.
  • Maintain mudroom, garage, backpack, and sports equipment organization.
  • Replace batteries, light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, and household filters.
  • Create weekly meal plans, communicate upcoming meals with the family, and bring creativity and variety to weekly menus.
  • Batch cook healthy, family-friendly dinners once or twice per week, preparing approximately five meals to provide dinners for the entire week.
  • Prepare school lunches for each child two to three times per week.
  • Manage grocery ordering primarily through online platforms (e.g., Amazon Fresh), with occasional in-store shopping.
  • Complete kitchen cleanup after meal preparation.
  • Maintain fridge organization, including wiping out shelves and discarding/replacing expired items.
  • Wash, fold, and organize laundry for the entire family.
  • Manage linen rotation as needed.
  • Provide steaming or special garment care when needed.
  • Maintain tidy and well stocked laundry areas.
  • Maintain household supply lists and restock pantry, fridge, and household essentials.
  • Manage household ordering through platforms such as Amazon Fresh and other online accounts.
  • Monitor subscriptions and add items to household carts as needed.
  • Complete errands including dry cleaning, returns, gift shopping, and package handling.
  • Open and organize deliveries, put items away, and break down boxes.
  • Support overall household project management and organization.
  • Manage household calendar logistics, appointments, school events, and activities.
  • Utilize shared calendars, household accounts, and digital tools comfortably.
  • Receipt/budget tracking for any expenses incurred as house manager.
  • Event and appointment coordination for the family.
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance.
  • Coordinate vehicle fueling, cleaning, and general upkeep.
  • Track vehicle registration/insurance.
  • Identify maintenance needs proactively and coordinate handyman or contractor visits.
  • Coordinate with landscapers and seasonal vendors; Manage seasonal maintenance such as sprinkler services, pest treatments, and outdoor upkeep.
  • Research/coordinate repairs and quotes.
  • Provide occasional support related to the family’s second property on Long Island, including seasonal readiness and coordination.
  • Support larger organizational projects, especially during summer months (e.g., closet organization, garage projects).
  • Prepare the home for seasonal transitions and the school year.
  • Maintain humidifiers and air purifiers by replacing filters as needed.

Requirements

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Reliable personal transportation required to commute to Pelham; use of a family vehicle is provided during working hours for errands and pickups.
  • Experience managing multiple children and navigating the energy of a busy household is important.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback, adapting to a family’s preferences, and building trust over time.
  • Must pass a background check.
