About the Role

This prestigious two-year Global Urology Fellowship is designed to provide ST 6+ urologists as well as SAS doctors and international candidates, with a structured, progressive curriculum aimed at transitioning from a competent assistant in complex private care (Year 1) to an independent, high-volume robotic sub-specialist (Year 2). Fellows will gain hands-on experience in world-class institutions, Cleveland Clinic London and UCLH, while mastering advanced robotic techniques, perioperative leadership, and sub-specialized surgical skills. The fellowship emphasizes clinical excellence, academic achievement, and professional development through a combination of supervised operating, independent practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives. Training outcomes are validated against international standards using the ORDNA digital platform, ensuring competency in Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and surgical proficiency. Fellows will also contribute to governance, teaching, and curriculum evaluation, with the goal of becoming leaders in robotic urology. This fellowship post has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons as part of the RCS Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme.

Responsibilities

Develop perioperative leadership skills, master complex robotic assisting techniques, and gain multi-specialty exposure.
Demonstrate proficiency in pre- and post-operative care for high-acuity patients.
Assist in advanced robotic surgeries and broaden anatomical knowledge through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, initiate a research project, and complete a quality improvement audit.
Attend all MDT’s and monthly governance meetings.
Assist the M&M lead with organization and presentation of cases.
Undertake one research project and one quality improvement project during the post.
Transition to independent operating as high-volume robotic surgeons, aiming for proficiency in performing 80-100 robotic cases independently.
Achieve Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in surgical skills, error management, patient safety, and interprofessional communication, validated through the ORDNA system.
Publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, supervise junior trainees, and collect data to validate the fellowship curriculum.
Be involved in all urological surgeries.
Join Colorectal and Gynaecological lists when the urology team is not operating.
Be involved with consultants and fellows on the Surgical ward in the care of surgical inpatients.

Requirements

Fully registered with the GMC and current license to practice.
Current UK visa or permission to work.
MRCS or equivalent.
Candidate has completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least 18 months of which must have been within Urology.
Demonstrates ability to perform surgical procedures.
Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
Appropriate clinical and technical skills and abilities.
Knowledge of Clinical Governance.
Previous involvement in Audit/research project(s).
Ability to organize and prioritize clinical needs.
Evidence of diagnostic skills, and clinical judgment.
Competent in the perioperative management of surgical patients including the basic assessment, investigation, and management.
Competent in routine clinical skills including venipuncture, blood cultures, arterial sampling, nasogastric tube and urethral catheters.
