About the Role
The Commercial Construction Superintendent - Industrial directs the project workflow on-site, ensuring alignment with the project schedule and HITT's safety and quality standards. This role provides leadership and acts as a liaison between project team members, promoting business and client interests while demonstrating mid-level leadership qualities. The Superintendent communicates project priorities to site staff and subcontractors, serving as the primary leader for the construction project.
Responsibilities
- Understanding and administering the HITT safety program, including subcontractors, ensuring prompt reporting and investigation of accidents/incidents, and assisting with safety inspections.
- Maintaining HITT quality standards for all project aspects.
- Serving as the on-site safety leader and managing a safe jobsite.
- Maintaining a daily log of activities and site conditions.
- Managing the punch list and closeout process through owner/architect acceptance.
- Collaborating with the project manager on project scheduling, ensuring proper installation methods and sequences, meeting schedule commitments, and maintaining quality standards.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with subcontractors and developing community relationships to enhance business opportunities.
- Ensuring subcontractors are treated fairly.
- Completing accurate daily documentation of work orders/tickets.
- Understanding subcontractor scope of work to avoid unnecessary change orders.
- Identifying and resolving problems promptly.
- Developing and organizing the site team.
- Arranging for temporary site facilities and utilities.
- Identifying and expediting long-lead items.
- Collaborating with the project manager and site operations team throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- A four-year degree from an accredited university with a concentration in construction, engineering, or business is strongly preferred; additional work experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience in commercial construction.
- Experience with a commercial general contractor.
- Tenant renovations, service work, work in occupied spaces, weekend work, and fast-paced project experience are a plus.
- Mastery of building processes and best practices.
- Ability to organize necessary resources (people, tools, time) to meet deadlines and achieve results.
- Project lead experience preferred.
- Previous experience as a superintendent or project lead preferred.
- Ability to master sector/project-specific software systems including Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), ProCore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
- Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Strong ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, with a focus on audience-appropriate business writing and verbal skills.

- Ability to gather data, interpret it, and relay it through clear communication strategies.
- Ability to understand how pieces and processes fit into the bigger picture/business model.
