About the Role
The Buffalo News seeks an industrious, curious, and digitally focused reporter to cover high school athletics. The role involves juggling daily assignments, features, trend stories, and enterprise reporting while developing source relationships. Emphasis is placed on finding stories that transcend specific teams and resonate with the community.
Responsibilities
- Cover high school athletics.
- Juggle daily assignments, features, trend stories, and enterprise reporting.
- Develop relationships with sources.
- Break news.
- Work with data and open records.
- Utilize social media and other platforms as a newsgathering tool.
- Produce quality and quantity of coverage for approximately 85 schools.
- Find stories that transcend particular teams and strike a chord with the community.
Requirements
- Experience in breaking news is preferred.
- Experience working with data and open records is preferred.
- A robust social media presence is preferred.
- Comfortable with vertical video is preferred.
- Comfortable working in front of the camera is preferred.
- Must be fluent in social media and other platforms, including Instagram, Hudl, TikTok, X, Facebook and/or Reddit.
- Nights and weekends are required.
- Submit a resume, cover letter, and five clips showing range of reporting and expertise.
