About the Role

The Stop is seeking three individuals to join its Board of Directors, bringing expertise, dedication, lived experience, and vision to the organization. This is a governance board role with a three-year term, renewable for a second term.

Responsibilities

  • Act with fiduciary responsibility, exercising due diligence in all decision-making, upholding the organization’s bylaws and always operating in the best interests of the organization.
  • Attend quarterly Board meetings (4:00p - 8:00p), the Annual General Meeting, and meetings of at least one Committee of the Board.
  • Prepare for each Board and Committee meeting, including a thorough review of all materials, financials, and committee reports.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with fellow Board members and the Executive Director.
  • Be a donor, participate in fundraising activities and volunteer to occasionally assist in program delivery.
  • Actively recruit support for The Stop from personal and professional networks.
  • Be a resource for the Executive Director, or their designate, when called upon to provide particular expertise.

Requirements

  • Expertise, dedication, lived experience, and vision.
  • Range of qualifications and interests, including Human Resources, Legal, Development (Fundraising), and Board Governance.
  • Familiarity with The Stop.
  • Previous board experience is ideal.
  • Residing in the neighbourhoods surrounding The Stop’s three locations is encouraged.
  • Familiarity with activities of The Stop and the larger food security and social services sector in Toronto and further afield.
