About the Role

The Translation Catalyst Programme is how the Academy turns its position into action, and this role leads it. It is about building the operating system around UK science -- the alignment and shared infrastructure that let research succeed -- and, over time, a national asset. This is a building role as much as a delivery one, focused on bringing in partners and external funding to determine the programme's scale and pace. Success is measured by systemic changes, not just announcements.

Responsibilities

Support the delivery of defined translational activity with research and health system partners, ensuring outputs meet standards and timescales.
Lead discrete workstreams or specialist project activity, managing progress, risks, and issues within objectives.
Set and manage personal work priorities and provide guidance to other colleagues where relevant.
Support deep-dives, workshops, and round tables to analyze translational barriers and identify areas for UK advantage.
Develop options, actions, and recommendations based on evidence, in collaboration with partners.
Contribute evidence and insight to discussions with funders, partners, collaborators, Fellows, industry, charities, and the wider health system.
Provide input to the design and development of Academy interventions to advance promising science from discovery to development.
Collaborate with the Grants and Programmes team to ensure new schemes are deliverable, well-governed, and aligned with the Academy’s portfolio.
Provide advice on translational pathways, stakeholder needs, and delivery risks to support senior colleagues' decision-making.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with partners across the health and research system.
Develop and support practical mechanisms for collaboration, such as workshops and partnership propositions.
Shape projects that connect scientific opportunity with development, adoption, or commercial pathways.
Synthesize evidence from various sources, develop options, and identify practical implications, clearly presenting risks, benefits, and governance considerations.
Ensure partnerships are transparent, well-governed, and consistent with the Academy’s charitable purpose.
Support partnerships that bring in external capability and insight from industry, public funders, research charities, regulators, and healthcare provider organizations.
Support partner engagement professionally, documenting commitments and shared ownership.
Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, issues, and resources to the Translational Partnerships Lead.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Academy to ensure partnership work supports organizational priorities.

Requirements

Well-developed experience in research translation, including understanding key stages and common barriers.
Well-developed knowledge and experience in areas such as biomedical science, research policy, programme delivery, grants management, stakeholder engagement, translational research, or life sciences innovation.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize evidence and provide clear advice.
Credibility with stakeholders in the UK research, science, health, policy, or life sciences environment.
Experience supporting partnerships, projects, or workstreams and turning priorities into practical plans.
Experience managing a defined area of work, project, or specialist activity to required standards and timescales.
Ability to operate with defined autonomy within agreed objectives, priorities, and governance frameworks.
Ability to set and manage personal priorities and, where relevant, those of others.
Ability to self-initiate work in support of team or Directorate objectives.
Understanding of the strategy for the role's area and its contribution to wider Academy priorities.
Willingness to seek input from colleagues as needed.
