About the Role

The Translational Partnerships Lead will drive the Academy’s Translation Catalyst Programme, acting as a bridge between biomedical science, policy, and stakeholder engagement. This role involves building the operating system for UK science by convening diverse partners—including industry, government, and charities—to accelerate research translation and create a national asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a defined portfolio of translational activity with research and health system partners.
  • Manage day-to-day delivery, risks, and dependencies across the remit.
  • Line manage and develop staff, fostering a collaborative working culture.
  • Conduct deep-dives through workshops and round tables to identify and address translational system failures.
  • Work with partners to develop practical solutions and commitments for improvement.
  • Use evidence and insight to inform discussions with government, funders, and the wider research community.
  • Support the design and development of Academy interventions, including partnership propositions and pilot activities.
  • Collaborate with the Grants and Programmes team to ensure new schemes are deliverable and well-governed.
  • Provide specialist advice on translational pathways, stakeholder needs, and delivery risks.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across the health system to identify value-add opportunities.
  • Shape propositions that connect scientific opportunity with development, adoption, or commercial pathways.
  • Analyze complex evidence to identify gaps and define focus areas for solutions.
  • Ensure all partnerships are transparent, well-governed, and consistent with the Academy’s charitable purpose.
  • Secure external funding and commitments from industry, public funders, and research charities.
  • Provide clear reporting on progress, performance, and resources to the Director of Translation and Enterprise.

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience in biomedical science, policy, programme delivery, or life sciences innovation.
  • Deep understanding of the process of moving research towards development, adoption, or commercial application.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex challenges without clear precedent.
  • Credibility with stakeholders in the UK research, science, health, or policy environment.
  • Proven experience in building effective partnerships and turning shared ambition into deliverable plans.
  • Experience delivering programmes, projects, or workstreams to agreed objectives, timescales, and resources.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy within agreed governance frameworks.
  • Experience in managing risks, dependencies, and reporting.
