About the Role
As Monzo grows into new countries, products, and technologies like AI, this role balances regulatory obligations with innovative, customer-centric solutions. The Global DPO Office operates within the second line of defense, supporting the Data Protection Officer and providing independent oversight of data protection compliance across Monzo.
Responsibilities
- Provide practical, proportionate data protection advice, oversight, and challenge across the bank.
- Review DPIAs, provide DPO opinions, assess data breaches, and support regulatory reporting decisions.
- Support regulator relationships, improve regulatory engagement and complaints processes, and oversee data subject rights and contact point processes.
- Lead Global DPO Office projects and represent the team in projects affecting data protection compliance.
- Own specific goals and workstreams within the DPO Office maturity plan, building scalable and efficient processes, governance, and ways of working.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement through data, automation, AI, and other tools.
- Deputize for the DPO, gaining experience across DPO-level responsibilities.
Requirements
- Practical, experienced data protection professional with strong knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR, and ICO expectations.
- Curious about AI and innovative technology, with experience or exploration of practical AI use in work.
- Self-starter who enjoys solving complex and ambiguous problems methodically.
- Hands-on experience across core DPO work, including DPIAs, data breaches, privacy notices, governance, reporting, and regulator-facing activity.
- Understanding of effective second-line oversight and ability to build trusted relationships while providing advice, oversight, and challenge.
- Thoughtful communicator skilled in working with cross-functional teams, sharing knowledge, influencing, and problem-solving.
- Ability to turn broad goals into clear plans, work through complex problems, and deliver improvements with pace, structure, and good judgment.
