About the Role
Carver Companies is seeking a Software Engineer to lead the development of software solutions and internal tools. This role involves managing vendor-supplied systems, building integrations, creating custom data warehouses, and establishing a formal development function within the IT department. You will work closely with business stakeholders to improve organizational efficiency while also gaining exposure to cybersecurity and IT operations.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify process improvements and system needs.
- Act as a subject matter expert on existing system capabilities.
- Analyze and recommend solutions including off-the-shelf, third-party, or internal development.
- Establish development standards, conventions, and procedures.
- Build and maintain internal web applications, dashboards, and productivity tools.
- Develop robust ETL processes for data migration.
- Implement data validation and quality checks.
- Create and maintain detailed system architecture and configuration documentation.
- Lead or support technology implementation projects.
- Write clean, well-documented code and integrate tools via REST APIs.
- Deploy and manage applications on Azure.
- Manage source code, branching, and releases using GitHub.
- Assess and support existing BASE44 application prototypes.
- Evaluate and provide guidance on AI tools for employee productivity.
- Participate in cybersecurity incident response and compliance activities.
- Assist in IT backup and disaster recovery planning.
- Provide after-hours or on-call support for critical systems as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of experience in software development.
- Proficiency in Python for backend development and scripting.
- Experience using REST APIs for data integration.
- Hands-on experience with Azure services.
- Familiarity with Docker for containerization.
- Experience deploying web apps via IIS, Azure Web Services, or Base44.
- Proficiency in version control with GitHub.
- Scripting skills in PowerShell or Bash.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong attention to detail and task prioritization.
- Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time.
- Comfortable working in industrial and maritime environments.
