About the Role
The Quantitative Solutions department is business-focused and prides itself in being subject matter experts across core areas: business knowledge, research and development of derivatives models, analytical tools, and producing highly scalable performant compute services for pricing and risk. The Quantitative Analysis team is responsible for the research and implementation of models for derivatives pricing and market analysis, delivering a C++ library and Python services for pricing, risk calculation, and parameter estimation and calibration. The team partners with trading, structuring, and commercial teams to recommend and develop new models, and identify and implement enhancements to existing models, working closely with Quantitative Development and Quant Risk to ensure efficient implementation, testing, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Partner with trading and structuring to gather requirements for new derivatives models
- Undertake research and development for new models and upgrades to existing models
- Backtest models to provide insights on model behaviour and suggest strategies for trading
- Calibration/estimation of model parameters, working with development teams for deployment
- Partner with Quantitative Development to develop pricing libraries and data analysis tools
- Actively engage with Quant Risk to test and document proposed enhancements to models
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within an equivalent trading environment (an energy trading house, or an energy trading desk within a hedge fund or an investment bank)
- Exposure to developing and implementing derivatives pricing models for complex structured commodity deals (financial and preferably physical) within gas and (preferably) power markets
- Deep understanding of option pricing theory and associated numerical methods (Monte Carlo)
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of energy markets and associated derivatives products
- Knowledge of numerical optimization methods (linear programming, dynamic programming)
- Good programming skills in C++ and Python: able and willing to write clear and effective code
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with an exceptional level of attention to detail
- Able to work independently and demonstrate a high degree of initiative to carry out research
- Good communication skills with the ability to actively engage with non-specialist audiences
- Capable of thriving in a fast paced yet collaborative and team-driven trading environment
