About the Role
As we continue our growth here at Hastings Direct, we’re now looking for a couple of Major Loss Claims Handlers, handling Catastrophic Injury. You’ll be part of a dynamic and forward thinking team who are on a journey to become the market leading large loss team in the country. We have exceptionally strong technical capability within our department and are passionate about developing our colleagues from a technical and commercial perspective, often leading to a quicker development journey than many other places.
Responsibilities
- Proactively manage your own portfolio of high value complex injury claims with a financial handling authority of at least £3m.
- Drive early and speedy resolution of claims by engaging with customers, insurers, legal and medical professionals and other stakeholders.
- Ensure all new and internally reallocated claims are reserved within our SLAs.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to wider claims handling teams.
- Act as a technical referral point and mentor for our wider claims handling teams.
- Utilize referral replies to enhance claims handling expertise.
- Carry out technical audits and record findings.
- Identify and highlight knowledge shortfalls or trends and provide recommendations.
- Share feedback in a constructive and appropriate manner.
- Work alongside Seniors in the team and get involved where required.
- Assist in the organisation of our Bi-Annual Tech Forum.
- Undertake various strategic projects to ensure the team evolves and stays ahead of industry trends and performance.
- Maintain Reinsurer confidence by liaising professionally and timely.
- Ensure claims are reported and regular updates are provided in accordance with our Reinsurance treaty.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in managing a portfolio of high value complex injury claims with a financial handling authority of at least £3m.
- Substantial knowledge and experience of settling claims in excess of £1m (including litigation).
- Current ownership of a claims handling authority of at least £3m.
- Strong indemnity and liability knowledge.
- Understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules, Serious Injury Guide, The Rehabilitation Code and litigation procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with a proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work under own initiative and prioritise own workload.
- Strong communication skills with a high degree of influencing and negotiation skills.
- Thorough referencing process, including credit and criminal record checks.
