About the Role

Expedia Group Advertising (EGA) connects the world's leading travel advertisers to powerful first-party travel intent data. Our Travel Media Network reaches millions of travelers across Expedia Group's brands, delivering measurable outcomes for travel brands. This role is crucial for seizing a growth inflection point in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, addressing the increasing pressure on Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) to demonstrate ROI and compete for high-value travelers.

Responsibilities

  • Own and grow EGA's revenue from Japan's DMO ecosystem through new client acquisition and deepening existing partnerships.
  • Navigate government procurement processes, including RFP responses and proposal preparation.
  • Build trusted relationships across multiple levels of DMO organizations.
  • Develop partnership proposals addressing strategic challenges for Japanese DMOs.
  • Collaborate with advertising agencies that influence DMO media budgets.
  • Develop and grow commercial relationships with Japan's major airport operators and affiliated advertisers.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with airport commercial and marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with the global airport vertical team to adapt global frameworks to the Japan market.
  • Build and manage a robust deal pipeline, leading negotiations from prospecting to signed agreements.
  • Exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets while maintaining client satisfaction and campaign performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with global and APAC teams to deliver comprehensive partnership solutions.
  • Represent EGA at industry events, DMO forums, and tourism trade shows.
  • Provide market intelligence and voice-of-customer insights to inform product and proposition development.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native Japanese proficiency (written and spoken).
  • Professional English fluency required for internal business.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of Japan's tourism and destination marketing ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or selling to Japanese government-linked organizations.
  • Experience navigating formal procurement and tender processes.
  • 5+ years of B2B business development, media, or advertising sales experience.
  • Track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals.
  • Proven experience working within or alongside Japan's major advertising agency ecosystem.
  • Experience on the buy-side or strategy side of destination marketing.
  • Familiarity with digital advertising products: programmatic, sponsored content, audience targeting, travel intent data, and performance measurement.
  • Experience in the airport or aviation commercial sector is a meaningful advantage.
  • Track record of winning competitive tenders or RFP processes in a media, technology, or marketing services context.
  • Knowledge of Korea's tourism and marketing ecosystem is a plus.
  • Relationship builder by instinct, investing in trust over time.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and navigating complex organizational dynamics.
  • Commercial rigour: ability to build a credible business case, construct a compelling proposal, and lead negotiations.
  • Understanding of Japanese government bodies' approach to accountability, reporting, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Confident communicator in both cultures.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
