About the Role
The Operations & Maintenance Director NSW is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of all Operations and Maintenance activities across New South Wales. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the successful execution of traffic signal, ITS, and related maintenance contracts while fostering a strong safety culture, operational excellence, and sustainable business growth.
Responsibilities
- Safety leadership and EHS governance across all NSW operations.
- Delivery of all maintenance and operational contracts in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Operational performance, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Compliance with legal, regulatory, contractual, and corporate requirements.
- Risk management and business continuity.
- Financial performance, profitability, and resource optimisation.
- Workforce capability, succession planning, and leadership development.

- Stakeholder engagement with Transport for NSW, local councils, customers, and strategic partners.
- Champion a Safety First culture across all operations.
- Lead and demonstrate visible safety leadership at all levels of the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, environmental requirements, and Yunex EHS standards.
- Establish measurable safety objectives and monitor leading and lagging safety indicators.
- Ensure all incidents, near misses, and hazards are investigated and corrective actions implemented.
- Conduct regular safety reviews, audits, and field leadership inspections.
- Promote worker wellbeing, mental health, and fitness for work initiatives.
- Ensure subcontractors and suppliers meet Yunex safety requirements.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, and customer outcomes.
- Develop and implement operational strategies aligned to customer and business objectives.
- Ensure effective contract mobilisation, service delivery, and transition management.
- Maintain service performance against contractual KPIs and SLAs.
- Lead continuous improvement programs using data-driven performance management.
- Optimise workforce planning, maintenance practices, asset management, and resource utilisation.
- Implement best-practice maintenance and operational processes.
- Ensure operational risks are identified, monitored, and mitigated.
- Foster innovation and adoption of digital technologies to improve service delivery.
- Maintain accountability for compliance with all contractual, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, quality systems, and internal management systems.
- Lead internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
- Maintain effective risk management frameworks across all operational activities.
- Ensure compliance with procurement, commercial, ethical, and business conduct policies.
- Monitor and manage contractual obligations and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure document control, record management, and operational reporting processes are maintained.
- Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Requirements
- Senior leadership experience managing large-scale maintenance and operational service contracts.
- Demonstrated experience leading safety-critical operations.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation and contractor management.
- Proven track record in operational excellence and continuous improvement programs.
- Experience managing compliance, audit, and governance frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with government and infrastructure customers.
