About the Role

As a Swim Lesson Assistant Volunteer, you will support the Aquatics staff, build relationships with members and participants, and uphold the YMCA's mission and values. Your role is crucial in maintaining a positive, friendly, and safe environment in the aquatic areas, acting as a positive role model for all.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with swim instructor to provide lessons for children, youth and adult
  • Proactively interact with swimmers to assist their practice
  • Supervise and ensure safety of all participants (sign in/out, emergency procedure)
  • Maintain pool area and deck cleanliness
  • Greet all participants and guests with a smile
  • Build positive relationships with YMCA staff, volunteers and members
  • Maintain regular communication with Manager of Aquatics
  • Complete all online trainings, program training and WHY School

Requirements

  • Minimum age: volunteers as young as the summer they are entering grade 9
  • Original Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening less than 6 months old for volunteers 18 years of age and older
  • Minimum certificate of Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid preferred
  • Strong swimming skills required
  • Fun, friendly and enthusiastic

  • Minimum commitment of 4 months, 2 hours/week
