About the Role

As an Assistant Lifeguard Volunteer, you will assist aquatics staff, build relationships with members and participants, and uphold YMCA values. Your role is crucial in maintaining a safe and positive environment in aquatic areas, acting as a role model and demonstrating knowledge of pool rules and the YMCA mission.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with lifeguards and team leads to provide positive safe recreational swims for children, youth and adults.
• Proactively interact with swimmers to assist their practice.
• Supervise and ensure safety of all participants, including rule enforcement and emergency procedures.
• Maintain pool area and deck cleanliness.
• Greet all participants and guests with a smile.
• Build positive relationships with YMCA staff, volunteers, and members.
• Maintain regular communication with the Manager of Aquatics.
• Complete all online trainings, program training, and WHY School.

Requirements

• Minimum age 15.
• Original Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening less than 6 months old for volunteers 18 years of age and older.
• Minimum certificate of Bronze Cross and Emergency First Aid REQUIRED.
• Minimum commitment of 4 months, 2 hours/week.
