About the Role
We are looking for energetic Run Club Volunteers to help lead our weekly community runs. This role involves fostering a supportive environment where runners of all levels feel welcome, safe, and motivated, while assisting Health and Wellness Staff and acting as a positive role model.
Responsibilities
- Assist in leading group runs, ensuring the group stays together and follows the designated route
- Ensure all Run Club safety guidelines and traffic rules are being followed
- Orient new members to the run routes, pacing groups, and club structure
- Assist with the setup and teardown of run-related equipment or hydration stations
- Build positive relationships with YMCA staff, volunteers, and members
- Maintain excellent communication with Health and Wellness Staff regarding attendance or route issues
- Complete all online trainings, program training, and Volunteer WHY School
- Be an Ambassador for the YMCA within the local running community
Requirements
- Minimum age: volunteers as young as the summer they are entering grade 9
- Understanding of physical fitness principles
- Original Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening less than 6 months old for volunteers 18 years and older
- Minimum commitment of 4 months, 2 hours/week
Skills
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C preferred
- Experience working or volunteering in physical fitness preferred
- Fun, friendly and enthusiastic
- Excellent customer service skills
- Hardworking, dependable and a team player
