About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Genomics team in London. You will focus on defining data requirements for our AI models, establishing data quality standards, and validating model success through evidence. You will be a first principles thinker capable of reasoning backwards to define data needs, structure, and evaluation methods for AI models.

Responsibilities

  • Define data requirements for AI models based on modeling goals.
  • Assemble or curate data, define ground truth and label quality.
  • Build biologically sound, homology- and structure-aware data splits.
  • Design evaluations, metrics, baselines, and failure analyses to prove model capability.
  • Fine-tune and evaluate genomic or protein models, or collaborate with those who do.
  • Reason about biological meaning from foundational data to therapeutic context.
  • Run and develop genomic and protein analyses using sequence analysis, alignment, annotation, and comparative/evolutionary approaches.
  • Ensure reproducibility of datasets and analyses using workflow managers and containers.
  • Maintain data integrity, treating provenance and lineage as first-class dataset components.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience curating data specifically for life-science AI.
  • Experience training, fine-tuning, or running inference on AI models.
  • Strong foundations in bioinformatics, sequence informatics, and the standard genomic and protein toolchain.
  • Judgment to identify limitations in bioinformatics tools.
  • Sound software practice in reproducibility, version control, and pipelines.
  • Direct experience in human research, functional genomics, or clinically relevant work.
  • PhD in a relevant field, an MSc with 1-3 years of relevant experience, or a BSc with 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Low ego, collaborative instincts, and a startup mentality.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to wear multiple hats.
