About the Role
The Rental Subsidy Organizer works with Chinatown SRO families to provide information, services, and access to safe and decent housing. This role offers administrative assistance, guidance through the application process, and housing search support. The organizer will also advocate for the continuation of rental subsidy and housing voucher programs.
Responsibilities
- Create curriculum and conduct educational workshops and outreach to families about rental subsidy and housing voucher programs.
- Coordinate communication between families, the collaborative, the rental subsidy program, SF Housing Authority, and property owners/management.
- Provide administrative support and case management to families throughout the application process.
- Organize families and advocate for the extension and expansion of rental subsidy and housing voucher programs.
- Support families in applying for DAHLIA BMR units and assist with applications and move-in requirements.
- Maintain and track records of affordable housing applications through DAHLIA.
- Produce and maintain records of communication with various departments, agencies, and stakeholders.
- Maintain adequate records of funds utilized benefiting families.
- Conduct outreach and education efforts, including disseminating subsidized housing information and opportunities.
- Develop and coordinate outreach and communication workplans and materials.
- Assist families throughout the application process, including assessments, form filling, and communicating with administrators.
- Coordinate Place Based Vouchers (PBV) building tours and Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) family briefings.
- Guide families through the rental subsidy and Housing Authority certification process, including housing search, unit inspections, and move-in assistance.
- Develop a move-out package for families.
- Assist with the creation and use of forms in the SRO Families Case Management system.
- Achieve and document housing retention case management activities through routine check-ins.
- Refer families to essential services and address housing problems.
- Organize families to participate in decision-making processes related to rental subsidies and housing voucher programs.
- Participate in check-ins, team meetings, and training.
- Contribute to a safe and pleasant work environment.
- Follow policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Commitment and desire to work with low-income, immigrant families from diverse backgrounds and to empower them through organizing and providing services.
- Sensitivity and utmost confidentiality regarding family information and housing counseling cases.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Strong skills in planning, scheduling, and organizing events, tours, and meetings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure.
- Ability to learn basic word processing and computer skills in Spanish or Chinese.
- Ability to represent SRO Families United Collaborative and Chinatown CDC in a professional manner.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability to speak fluently in English.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheet, Google Sheets, Google Forms.
- Experience in providing services, particularly to low-income family, elderly and disabled populations.
- Capacity to work evenings and weekends.
Skills
- Reading and writing Spanish and speaking fluent Spanish, or reading and writing Chinese and speaking fluent Cantonese.
