About the Role
HDR is seeking a Mechanical Business Class Lead to provide leadership to a team of engineers and designers on complex architectural engineering projects. This role involves mentoring, training, coordinating design work, and fostering a collaborative team culture to promote design excellence. The position also includes supporting marketing, workplan development, quality control, recruiting, and team development.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership to the team.
- Identify growth opportunities through mentoring and training.
- Coordinate the design work of Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
- Create a collaborative and motivating team culture.
- Support marketing and project pursuits.
- Develop workplans.
- Ensure quality control.
- Participate in recruiting and team development.
- Serve as the Mechanical Lead on multiple multi-disciplinary projects.
- Manage projects with a predominantly engineering focus.
- Design HVAC and plumbing systems to ASHRAE 90.1 and LEED requirements.
- Write specifications, design narratives, and proposals.
- Take responsibility for operations of the production section, including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control, and marketing support.
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions.
- Lead and coordinate services with other sections.
- Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects.
- Establish client relations.
- Participate in marketing, design, and production meetings.
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions.
- Coordinate workload to complete documents on schedule.
- Track the financial aspects of projects.
- Coordinate and adjust work effort with the team to ensure completion within schedule parameters.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 10 years of experience.
- Committed to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Maintain a professional or engineering registration.
- Have related technical experience.
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams.
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business class efforts.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
