About the Role

This leadership role is responsible for the business ownership, resilience, governance, and evolution of ASX’s core trading platforms, including ASX Trade and ASX24. The Head of Trading Services will ensure these platforms remain trusted, resilient, compliant, and competitive, balancing innovation with operational stability to deliver strong customer, regulatory, and commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Set and execute the business and platform strategy for ASX Trading Services.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of ASX’s trading platforms, including roadmap prioritization, modernization, vendor partnerships, and transition from legacy platforms.
  • Act as the senior business owner for ASX Trade and ASX24, with accountability for platform functionality, performance, resilience, access models, data distribution, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead significant trading platform and market structure change, ensuring innovation is delivered without compromising operational resilience, risk management, or regulatory compliance.
  • Partner closely with Markets Technology to influence front-to-back architecture and ensure technology decisions support business, customer, and regulatory outcomes.
  • Develop, own, and advocate ASX’s position on cash and derivatives market structure.
  • Stay close to regulatory, competitive, customer, and government developments that may impact trading platforms and services.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with ASIC, RBA, and relevant industry bodies.
  • Represent ASX externally on complex, sensitive, or strategically important trading, market structure, and platform-related matters.
  • Take accountability for the commercial performance of trading services, including revenue drivers linked to platform access, trading models, pricing inputs, and data distribution.
  • Define and manage pricing inputs and commercial initiatives across trading services.
  • Identify market structure, access, and trading model opportunities that support revenue growth, customer value, and competitive positioning.
  • Use trading, participant, and platform data to inform commercial strategy, pricing decisions, and market positioning.
  • Own trading access models and service design, from participant onboarding and connectivity through to execution and post-trade data.
  • Partner with Distribution and customer-facing teams to support strategic participant relationships, complex escalations, and strong service outcomes.
  • Ensure trading platform and market changes are delivered with a strong customer and participant impact lens.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing Trading Services team.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, curiosity, continuous improvement, and shared ownership.
  • Operate effectively in a matrix environment, maintaining clear decision rights, prioritization, and escalation pathways.
  • Collaborate across ASX to drive enterprise-wide alignment.

Requirements

  • Deep experience in trading services, market operations, market structure, exchange platforms, or a closely related financial markets environment.
  • Strong understanding of cash and/or derivatives markets, trading platforms, participant connectivity, order execution models, and market data.
  • Demonstrated experience owning or influencing critical technology platforms, including roadmap prioritization, resilience, change delivery, and vendor or technology partnerships.
  • Proven ability to lead complex change in a highly regulated, high-availability environment where stability, governance, and risk management are essential.
  • Experience engaging with senior internal stakeholders, customers, regulators, and industry bodies on complex or sensitive market-related matters.
  • Commercial acumen, including experience using data and market insights to inform pricing, revenue, customer, and competitive strategy.
  • People leadership experience, with a track record of building accountable, collaborative, and outcome-focused teams.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Australia on a permanent basis without any restrictions.
